I have been fishing for over 40 years and have seen firsthand the ups and downs of some of our fisheries.  These declines can be contributed to a number of factors (i.e. overfishing, pollution, cyclical nature of species, etc) so I wanted to develop a way I could assist in helping reduce the mortality of the fish we love to catch.  By allowing anglers the ability to estimate the length and/or weight of a fish by merely taking a picture, we can do the following:

  • Reduce the amount of time a fish is out of the water, therefore lessening the stress to the fish and increasing the chance of survival after the release
  • In some instances, eliminate the need for the angler to cull the fish, not to consume but to only to get a weight and length measurement
  • On occasion, eliminate the need to carry a scale and tape measure needed to weigh and measure your catch

I know there have been times where either me or one of my fishing buddies caught a good fish but didn’t take the time to weigh and measure it because we felt it was out of the water too long and didn’t want to take a chance of it not surviving.  This app allows you to measure and weigh (if applicable) your fish from your couch.

Not only will this assist in catch and release but it will also allow the anglers the ability to document their catch and share with fellow fishing club members, friends, family, etc, (i.e. FaceBook) while releasing it to fight another day.
